Bad Practices in Using Social Media for Internet Marketing

social media for Internet Marketing

The social media is indeed very effective in Internet marketing. This will provide you the edge that your business needs by making it known to others and by showcasing the benefits that it can offer to other people. However, this is also one of the most abused platforms of Internet marketing.

Many people think that social networking sites are just free-for-all platforms in Internet marketing where they can just do or say whatever they want. But little do they know that their careless words and actions can impact their Internet marketing negatively, and the effects can be long-term or even permanent.

So, it is important for you to know the things that you should not do when using the social media for Internet marketing. Below are the things that you should avoid to preserve the good reputation of your business:

1. Deception

Never ever deceive your audience. Do not pretend that your product is flawless because once your customers find out that you are lying to them, they will come back to haunt you with negative remarks and bad reviews for your site. As much as possible, be honest in your answers to your customers.

2. Limiting Your Views

Do not only limit your views on the things that you have learned or experienced. Open your mind to the ideas or suggestions of your critics. Use their inputs to transform your product or service into something better.

However, I am not saying that you should always jump the gun on something that you think is unreasonable. Let logic, surveys and other Internet marketing tools verify first if what they are saying are good for your business or not.

3. Working Beyond the Norms

Never go beyond the written and unwritten rules of the online community. Avoid berating or harassing other people no matter how obnoxious they may be. If you find that you are in a bad position due to the unruly conduct of others, simply block or delete them from your circle. It is a wise move to report the said users to the moderator of the site too so that they will be dealt with accordingly.

On the other hand, if the above-mentioned acts do not work for you, you can always answer those people in a constructive manner. Use logic instead of force in reasoning out with them. Always remember to keep your cool while putting your goals ahead of anything else when you are dealing with those kinds of people.

4. Being Too Pushy

Avoid spamming or forcing others to avail of your products or services. If you sense that the people whom you are talking to are not interested in any way with what you are presenting, politely excuse yourself from the conversation. Besides, it is a waste of precious time to be nagging people about something that they do not really need or want anyway.

In addition, never interrupt people during a conversation with others just to promote what you are selling. You may join the conversation though, if you are welcome, and creatively intrigue them so you can catch their attention. Once they do, that’s your cue to promote whatever it is you are offering.

5. Talking Monotonously

Stop talking like an automaton. Keep your tone in a conversational manner and add feelings into it. Remember to be straightforward as well. If you can explain your product in a couple of sentences only, then do it.

Do not keep on adding fillers, non-sense or other things that may blur the views of your prospective clients. Remember, you are there to inform them about your product and to get them interested, not to bore them, make them sleep or confuse them.

6. Keeping Your Internet Marketing Goal on a Short-Term Only

Great advice would be, go learn form the pros incognito, get an internship position at a place like YEAH Local or whichever business near you doing generally what you want to be doing eventually. The depth of learning achieved in real life application can be astounding. Choose your words and battles carefully. Think before you act. A great Internet marketing practice if to study and weigh the consequences of your decisions first before you do something. Never say or do something that you will end up regretting in the long run. Always put your goal into mind prior to laying down your cards.

With deep love, may your business be profitable today and beyond.
